How to add an organization schema.

An organization is the parent entity that holds your business information and locations inside Schema Nerd. Before you can create a LocalBusiness location, you must create the organization it belongs to.

This guide walks through each field in the New Organization form and explains what to do after the organization has been created.

Quick Answer

  • Sign in to Schema Nerd and open your Dashboard.
  • Select Create a New Organization.
  • Complete every field not labeled optional.
  • Select the organization type that most accurately describes the parent entity.
  • Upload your logo and add your official social media URLs.
  • Select Create Organization.
  • Open the organization to begin adding business locations.

Before You Create the Organization

Gather the following information before opening the form:

  • Organization or brand name
  • Alternate name, if applicable
  • Organization type
  • Official website URL
  • Logo file
  • Official social media profile URLs

Every field that is not specifically labeled optional must be completed before Schema Nerd will create the organization.

Step 1: Open the New Organization Form

Sign in to Schema Nerd and open your Dashboard.

Under Pilot Chair, select Create a New Organization.

The New Organization form will open in a pop-up window.

Step 2: Enter the Organization Information

Organization Name

Enter the primary public name of the company, practice, nonprofit, association, or other organization.

Use the name consistently shown on the organization’s website and other official profiles.

Alternate Name (Optional)

Enter another name the organization is commonly known by, such as an abbreviation, shortened brand name, or former name.

Leave this field blank if the organization does not use an alternate name.

Organization Type

Select the Organization schema type that most accurately describes the parent entity.

This field describes the organization as a whole. The more specific LocalBusiness type for each storefront, office, or service location will be selected when you create that location.

Website URL

Enter the full URL of the organization’s official website, including https://.

For example:

https://example.com

Logo

Select Choose File and upload the organization’s official logo.

If the Create Organization button remains unavailable, confirm that a logo file has been selected. The logo field is required.

Social Media URLs

Enter the full URL of an official social media profile associated with the organization.

Select Add new to add additional profiles. Only include profiles that officially represent the organization.

Step 3: Create the Organization

Review the information you entered, then select Create Organization.

If the button is unavailable, one or more required fields have not been completed. Check every field that is not marked optional, including the logo and social media information.

After the organization is created, it will appear under Your Organizations on the Dashboard.

Step 4: Open the Organization

Select the new organization from the Your Organizations list.

The organization page contains:

  • The option to update the organization
  • The option to delete the organization
  • The organization’s assigned business locations
  • The Schema Markup Viewer
  • The final Save All Changes control

A new organization will not have any assigned locations yet. Your next step is to create its first LocalBusiness location.

Organization Schema and Location Schema

The organization represents the parent company or brand. Each location represents a particular office, storefront, branch, or other LocalBusiness associated with that organization.

Schema Nerd combines this information into the organization’s full schema, including all assigned locations. Keeping the organization and its locations connected makes the resulting structured data easier to manage and update.

Troubleshooting Organization Creation

The Create Organization Button Is Unavailable

Confirm that every field not labeled optional has been completed. Pay particular attention to the organization type, website URL, logo, and social media URL fields.

I Selected the Wrong Organization Type

Open the organization and select Update Organization. Choose the correct type and save the updated information.

I Opened the Location Form Before Creating an Organization

Close the New Location form and return to the Dashboard. Locations cannot be created until an organization exists to contain them.

I Need to Change the Organization Later

Open the organization and select Update Organization. After changing organization or location data, use Save All Changes to rebuild the organization’s complete schema.

Next Steps

Once the organization exists, add its first business location:
